18 hours still left to go for crowdfunding campaign

Bloodstained most funded video game in Kickstarter history

Castlevania designer Koji Igarashi’s action platformer Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has now raised more than $4.6m, making it the most funded video game in Kickstarter history.

The crowdfunding campaign has had over 55,000 backers so far, and at the time of writing the project still has another 18 hours to go. The title is well on target to raise ten times more than its original $500,000 funding goal.

The other top funded video games on Kickstarter include InXile’s Torment: Tides of Numenera ($4.18m), Obisidan’s Project Eternity ($3.98m) and Comcept’s Mighty No. 9 ($3.84m).

The other two most funded project’s in Kickstarter’s games category are Android microconsole Ouya, which made $8.59m, and card game Exploding Kittens, which raised $8.78m.

Following its huge success on the crowdfunding site, Bloodstained’s developer Armature has offered to share its work on bringing an Unreal Engine 4 game to Wii U and PlayStation Vita with other studios. The engine currently does not support those platforms.

“Since they’re not officially supported platforms, it’s going to be a lot of work to get Bloodstained and UE4 on these platforms, but we are up to the challenge,” read a statement from the studio.

“Since the community got these platforms off the ground, we figure it’s best to let the community have them back when we’re done. As a result, after the release of Bloodstained we will share, for free, the UE4 Wii U and Vita code with any developer authorised to develop on those platforms.”
