Social and mobile developer and publisher Outplay Entertainment has announced an expansion to its Dundee studio after securing a substantial input of funding.
Pentech Ventures and the Scottish Investment Bank – existing investors in Outplay – have provided a total of $4 million, which will see the studio expand and investment in games development and new staff.
“This investment is testament to the fantastic progress the Outplay team has made developing and launching our first games, as well as the confidence Pentech and SIB have in our plans for the future and in our new game, Bubble Blaze, which launched globally yesterday," said Douglas Hare, co-founder and CEO at Outplay. "Industry and consumer reception to Bubble Blaze has been beyond our expectations and this new round ensures that we’ll be able to give it, as well as the other titles we have in the development pipeline, the support it needs to succeed in this highly competitive, global marketplace.”
“The team that we’ve assembled in Dundee are super-talented, and are building high quality consumer experiences," added co-founder and president of Outplay Richard Hare. "Doug and I built our last companies in California but the talent of the engineers, designers, artists, and producers available in the area has validated our decision to move back to the UK and build the studio in Dundee. We have a hugely creative staff, developing a new range of genre defining games, and I look forward to expanding the team further”
Outplay’s yet to be announced forthcoming games are to offer augmented reality and GPS elements, and will see release in 2013.
