Chinese online gaming firm grows via acquisition

Shanda buys rival Aurora

MMO firm Shanda, which was last week chosen by Tecmo to manage the online version of its Dead or Alive series, has acquired Aurora Technology.

Aurora develops and operates a number of online games in China, including Feng Yun Online, which has six million registered users, and Legend Online.

"The acquisition of Aurora Technology expands our user base, enriches our content portfolio, and provides us with immediate and significant revenue,” said Tianqiao Chen, Chairman and CEO of Shanda.

"In addition, the acquisition will also help us establish a new R&D center in Chengdu, which is one of Western China’s major cities, to make full use of the local talents and technologies for game development.”
