Virtools is working on next-gen tools for prototyping and production on Xbox 360 and PS3.

GDC: Virtools’ new next-gen tech

By introducing the next-gen engines, Dassault Systemes-owned Virtools will be split into two distinct product lines: the 2008 release of 360/PS3 platform called Codename NP and Virtools v4, for Wii, PSP and PC.

Virtools recently joined the PS3 tools and middleware program and at GDC has been demoing its Wii-dedicated tools, which it says makes development easier for studios by allowing the Wii controller to work on PCs running v4 of it’s software.

"With our next generation solutions, soon to be released for the Xbox 360, we are now addressing top class development studios interested in high performance engine coupled with a new flexible production pipeline. With over thousands of characters fully animated on-screen and impressive shader-based visual effects, we are now playing in the upper league for production too," commented Bertrand Duplat, CTO for Virtools, Dassault Systèmes.
