Leading UK publisher Future plc has today launched PC Gamer Pro, a section of the PCGamer.com site dedicated to competitive gaming and eSports.
The channel, which will appear under the main PCGamer.com’s site navigation, will focus on features, news and opinion centred around the burgeoning competitive scene.
Content will be focused on popular PC eSports titles, including League of Legends, Dota 2, Hearthstone and CS:GO with player interviews as well as guides and tips to help amateurs improve, too.
"PC Gamer has more than twenty years of history as a gaming publication," said PC Gamer Pro Editor Chris Thursten. "With PC Gamer Pro, we’re applying all of that experience to a new area of gaming."
A central tenet of Thursten’s overview for the site seems to be accessibility, something that PCGamer can bring to an often under-represented aspect of gaming media with a monthly unique draw of over 9.1m since its redesign.
But the new venture also aims to improve a somewhat negative perspective of eSports that many see the sector magnified through usual mainstream coverage.
"We’ve always valued accessibility, open-mindedness, and expertise presented with a sense of humour – none of that is changing, and all of it will be called upon for this new channel," Thursten said. "If competitive gaming has ever seemed unwelcoming, we want to help with that. If you’ve ever wanted a reliable source of exciting, funny, human and helpful stories about games, we want to help with that as well. Esports are for everybody.”
Current launch line-up features for the site include an interview with Velocity, a 14-year-old American Hearthstone player who recently reached Legendary rank without spending a single penny on the game, and a preview of LoL’s upcoming World Championship.
